***MOVIE REVIEW***

Well another year has come and gone and the WWE remains stagnant. The clear bright spot that gave so many fans hope was the pipe bomb emergence of CM Punk. His Raw ending promo on June 27 was a complete shoot and will go down as 6 of the greatest minutes in wrestling history.The promo is in full and uncut. Of course they botched all the heat of that a few weeks later but we now have CM Punk as a top merchandise seller and a new face of the company. The thing I noticed the most watching these 4 discs is the rise and fall of The Miz. He was truly one of the main reasons to watch the show for at least a third of the year and then they made him look like a complete fool. Hopefully the damage done is reversible still.

The Smackdown retirement speech from Edge is uncut as well. The best aspect about this set is that everything is uncut and the promos are complete. Josh Mathews is a likeable host who shows up at the start of each disc. Oh, you thought I was going to forget mentioning the feud between The Rock and John Cena. I'm honestly bored with the whole thing and it is a shame to see how thrilling the fist couple promos from the protagonists were, after they both continue to repeat the same catch phrases and motives. Overall this was a fun look back at a so-so year. 8/10

***VIDEO QUALITY***

The Best of Raw and Smackdown arrives on DVD with a 480p transfer in the original aspect ratio of 1.78:1. Raw and Smackdown are both broadcast live in HD and the SD conversion is helped greatly by that fact. There were no major signs of compression artifacts or edge enhancement. Colors are well saturated and fleshtones were consistently natural. Black levels were strong throughout. Fine detail was very good with logos and close ups benefiting the most. A solid presentation. 8.5/10

***AUDIO QUALITY***

Audio is provided by a Dolby Digital Stereo 5.1 track. The commentary is crisp and clean and the entrance themes have some nice heft to them. Surrounds are subtle with light crowd din noticeable during a heated contest. 8.5/10

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Blu-ray coming March 20th

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment have announced their plans to release Director David Finchers' adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. The film starring Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig, is set to be released on Blu-ray March 20, 2012. The film will be presented in the original aspect ratio of 2.39:1 that will be accompanied by a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track. Below is the lone special feature. I expect a future double dip on this film more than likely around the time of the sequels release to theaters.

Idealistic campaign worker Stephen Meyers (Ryan Gosling) has sworn to give all for Governor Mike Morris (Clooney), a wild card presidential candidate whose groundbreaking ideas could change the political landscape. However, a brutal Ohio primary threatens to test Morris's integrity. Stephen gets trapped in the down-and-dirty battle and finds himself caught up in a scandal where the only path to survival is to play both sides. The all-star cast includes Philip Seymour Hoffman, Paul Giamatti, Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood.

***VIDEO QUALITY***

The Ides of March arrives on Blu-ray with a 1080p transfer in the aspect ratio of 2.40:1. Sony continues it's streak of consistently stellar transfers. What is on display is a natural film like presentation with top notch fine detail. Colors exhibits a lot of warm yet natural tones. Black levels were inky while allowing good shadow detail to come through. There were no signs of edge enhancement or any other anomalies to report. I enjoyed every moment of this flawless transfer. 10/10

***AUDIO QUALITY***

Audio is provided by a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track. While the video is a knockout the audio track is well represented but the talk heavy nature of the film doesn't lend itself to demo worthy material. What we get though is a tasteful listen that uses surrounds subtly to bring you into the room of a debate or to expand the atmosphere in a crowded office. Dialogue was crisp and clean. The Bass lends some nice heft to the well done score. 8/10

* Audio Commentary: Actor/Director/Producer George Clooney and Writer/Producer Grant Heslov - A very engaging listen. George Clooney gives a lot of detailed information on every aspect of the production. The Actor and Director have a good speaking chemistry as well.

2012 will be a great year for Steven Spielberg fans if Universal Studios Home Entertainments plans hold true. The original summer blockbuster Jaws is expected to be releases on Blu-ray August 14, 2012. That major release will more than likely be followed by a 30th Anniversary Edition of the beloved classic E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial.

By the way, there are rumors that one or more of the sequels to Jaws may find their way to Blu-ray on the same day. Stay tuned.

***MOVIE REVIEW***

I remember seeing this film in the theaters the first weekend and not being to thrilled by it. By the time it arrived on VHS and I watched the cassette at least 100 times you could say I was a fan of this guilty pleasure. Steven Spielberg does a masterful job starting the film with Peter Pan as a grown up in the real world and is now an overworked man who has no time for his family. Robin Williams in my opinion was a good choice for the role of Peter and once he remembers who is it is a real joy to see him be so into the role.

Dustin Hoffman portrayal of Captain is a real hoot and the best thing about he movie and there are some dark tones that he plays to perfection. The children who play Peter's son and the Lost Boys aren't caricatures but real people that you warm up to as the film plays. As for Julia Roberts as Tinkerbell, I felt that had a few too many scenes but she did a fine job. The production values and set pieces are a real treat and John Williams musical score is another standout in a long career of masterpieces. Until I put the Blu-ray in my player the other night I had not watched Hook for about 5 years and it was great to see all my old favorites from years ago in this enchanting family film. 8.5/10

***VIDEO QUALITY***

Hook arrives on Blu-ray with a 1080p transfer in the original aspect ratio of 2.40:1. This is stated to be a new remaster and it certainly shows. Colors were perfectly saturated with the lost boys colorful food fight being a highlight. Fine detail was very good and I could make out all the little details on Dustin Hoffman's costume for the film.

Black levels were superb with an inky richness to them. There were no signs of digital enhancement. I'm sure some viewers will notice instances of some softness in the image, but that was due director Steven Spielberg's stylistic choice when filming not the fault of this transfer. So in short if you haven't seen Hook in a few years you'll be surprised by how beautiful this presentation is. 9/10

***AUDIO QUALITY***

Audio is provided by a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track. This is a real treat for fans of the film. Surrounds are used perfectly to create a sense of environment, especially aboard Captain Hooks ship. Dialogue was crisp and clean but I will say it was a bit low in the mix. LFE was deep and helped to add richness to John Williams musical score, which is the standout in this excellent presentation. 9/10

This is a handsomely produced series and the transfer reflects that with warm color reproduction and solid black levels. Fine detail was quite good with closeups of clothing showing stitching and texture. There were a few moments of softness but nothing too distracting. A fine presentation overall. 8/10

***AUDIO QUALITY***

Audio is provided by a Dolby Digital Stereo 2.0 track. Despite my own opinion that some of the narration is grating it is reproduced hear with a crisp and clean track. The low mixed score gets some decent stereo separation. Not an overly thrilling listen but there were no technical issues with it. 7/10

Black levels were solid with the darkness of space coming through fine. The only thing to mar the presentation is jagged edges and shimmering from time to time but I found the overall remastering work to be quite good. 7.5/10

Audio is provided by a Dolby Digital Stereo 5.1 track. The expansion to 5 channels results in battle scenes that are a fun time with sounds panning all across the listening room. Dialogue was very crisp. The mix is front heavy until the action ramps up and gets thrilling. 8/10

I have been a fan of the since its debut and this is another strong collection of episodes. Mike and Frank are a bit loud bit their enthusiasm is great. The best aspect of the show is meeting all the strange and enchanting characters they meet on their journey. Sometimes the people are the real treasure here. I have a minor problem with the show is that the pickers sometimes say they want the item for themselves and they turn around and sell it for 5x profit or more. As a viewer you really get the sense of being in the places they pick from and you can almost smell the old musty storage sheds that haven't been opened for 20 years. An overall enjoyable show to watch. 8.5/10

American Pickers arrives on DVD with a 480p transfer in the original aspect ratio of 1.78:1. I was pleased overall with the image on display here. Colors consist mostly of earth tones and browns due to the old dusty locations the pickers rummage through. Detail was quite good and helps in showing the items that Mike and Frankie are looking at. Black levels were consistent. There were some moments of noise but nothing to distract from the presentation. 7.5/10

Another volume of Pawn Stars arrive and it is still a delight to watch. Rick Harrison and his son Corey, his father The Old Man, and Chumlee are still very charismatic characters. It is a treat to see the odd items people think are "treasure" and it turns out to be a fake or a family heirloom that is worthless. If I have one problem with the show is there are too many times where a rare gun or autograph will come in and you know Rick is going to say "I got a buddy of mine who could look at it" and we then are given a recap later and the item is explained all over again until the professional tells him its value or authenticity. As far as "reality shows" go this is just a fun time and well worth taking the time to watch. 9/10

Pawn Stars arrives on DVD with a 480p transfer in the original aspect ratio of 1.78:1. The show is filmed in HD and the downgrade to standard definition doesn't suffer any glaring problems. Colors were warm and friendly. Black levels were strong and contrast was just right. There were instances of noise in the image but nothing to wash over the fine details of the interesting items that are brought into the shop. 7.5/10

Kevin Spacey gives another solid performance and the quirky characters are grounded by a terrific cast. The film switches moods on the fly. There were quite a few laughable moments as well as some decent dramatic work as well. Johnny Knoxville of Jackass fame does some good work here and plays off Spacey really well. Heather Graham I have always had a soft spot for and she was a delight in the film. I enjoyed the movie and was surprised to see it didn't get at least a short run in theaters. Well worth a rental and possible purchase with a good sale. 7.5/10

Nothing to hinder you're enjoyment of the conclusion to this all time classic World Series. 6.5/10

What? Did that just happen? That is what myself and millions of baseball fans throughout the country were asking themselves when the Boston Red Sox broke "The Curse" by winning their first World Series Championship on over 86 years in the fall of 2004. The dramatic story that lead to these events as well as their follow up World Series win in 2007 are analyzed in detail here. Matt Damon and Denis Leary's narration adds a touch of class to the overall show. A must own for any sports fan. 9/10

Fall Classic arrives on Blu-ray with a 1080i transfer and window boxed in the aspect ratio of 1.66:1. This is a so-so presentation with the lush backdrop of Fenway Park exhibiting some strong colors and deep reds that bleed. A big step down from and HD game presentation on ESPN. 6.5/10

***AUDIO QUALITY***

Audio is provided by a PCM Stereo 2.0 track. This is a consistently crisp and clean track but the game footage might have benefited from a 5.1 track where crowd din could bleed through. 7.5/10

***MOVIE REVIEW***

If the first set in the WWE: Greatest Rivalries is any indication then we wrestling fans are in for a treat for years to come. The first correct choice they made was using Jim Ross as the interviewer, he has a real history with these two Superstars and has a true passion for their story. This is a whole other level than the creepy and constant camera shots of Matt Striker grinning and acting cheesy with the Rey Mysterio compilation. Good Ol' JR is quick to the point and asks smart follow questions while always being respectful of these two legends.

The main feature runs 2hrs5mins total and there was hardly a dull moment. We start off with Shawn and Bret talking about their mutual respect for each other and how they felt their respective tag teams were the new blood that could steal the show instead of the lumbering giants that had dominated the 80's. From there it moves onto there single careers and how they were on a collision course to the top. They both speak openly about how they were close friends and Shawn would hang out with Bret and his family. It was nice to see them reminiscing and smiling about it. About halfway through the run time we get into the more juicy stuff I know me and a lot of fans have been waiting for. The odd thing is that it was for the longest time them both adding fire to the flame for business to improve and backstage were on the same page. Then in late 96 is when things went down hill and Bret felt hurt that Shawn explicitly told him to his face that he would not drop the WWE Championship back to him, despite that being to Harts knowledge their original plan, and if things had been different that they would have worked matches together for another 10 years and this story would never had lead to the screw job.

1997 rolls around and Shawn claims injury so the WrestleMania XIII opponent for Bret became the on fire "Stone Cold" Steve Austin , HBK actually jokes that "well you guys just stole the show, good consolation prize". HBK states that the he always felt he didn't get the pat on the back from Bret that he was always looking for and Bret said that he thought it was implied that it was coming and he does regret not doing it earlier. They comment on their brutally personal jabs at each other on RAW during 97 and the "Sunny Days" remark. All of this leads up to about 30 minutes worth of detail on Survivor Series 97. We have heard so many sides of the story over the years that it is such a relief to see Bret so open about it, despite Shawn being a little more guarded. They are both emotional during this part of the interview and I'm sure many fans will find it cathartic if they were a huge fan of either man to this day. The aftermath is discussed and Bret hated going to WCW but he was gutted by how he was treated. He talks about his stroke and how he had his phone in the hospital not hooked up for more than 10 minutes and Vince called with a pep talk and they talked about future plans for him to return and produce a DVD of his career, that call lead to 7 years of events that brought us to Dayton, Ohio live on Monday Night RAW where the reunion of Shawn and Bret happened and they embraced in mutual respect and regrets.

The main themes of this face to face is respect and regrets. My personal all time favorite is Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart was always in my top 5. Bret moved up a couple notches with this set due to his being so honest and open about every subject and just telling how it all went down with a storyteller ease. It's great to see him so proud again and moving on with his life as well as rebuilding the friendship with Shawn. Shawn Michaels was very good on here as well but he didn't seem his usual charismatic self and he came across defensive on certain subjects. I feel it was more due to him still feeling deep regret for the events that transpired and being a born again Christian he wants to move on with the great man he has become since that infamous day in Montreal. Every wrestling fan owes it to themselves and these two legends to purchase this set on release day. 10/10

***VIDEO QUALITY***

WWE: Greatest Rivalries arrives on DVD with a 480p transfer in the original aspect ratio of 1.78:1. We'll start with Disc 1 where the majority of the footage is a newly HD shot interview at WWE Studios and it exhibits natural skintones, warm colors, and deep blacks. Fine detail was strong with visible stitching on HBK's baseball cap and individual strands of The Hitman's hair. The video highlight segments that lead into the next subject feature tons of vintage photographs and match clips. The colors were quite bold from that era and while the image at times showed a slight softness that was sue to the tech used at that time. There is a HBK logo and Hitman logo that flank the sides of the image during these segments as well as the matches on Disc 2 & 3.

***AUDIO QUALITY***

Audio is provided by a Dolby Digital Stereo 5.1 track. The main feature on Disc 1 exhibited crisp and clean dialogue from the participants and the tastefully done music score that plays over video highlights sounded great with some decent bleed to the surrounds otherwise this is a front heavy affair. The matches on Disc 2 & 3 had clean play-by-play commentary and the them music for Shawn and Bret came across full bodied in the front two channels. There was hardly any surround effects to report. A solid listen all around. 8/10

Gettysburg - Blu-ray Review

***MOVIE REVIEW***

Well this was something different. Instead of doing the long 10 or so hour mini-series with tons of photos being filmed and narration of notes to loved ones this feature film length production from Ridley and Tony Scott goes for a more straight action focus. We do learn some interesting facts but is more on the weaponry and battle aspects and less worried about showing the inner conflict of the people involved in the tragedy that was the Civil War. The battle scenes were quite good backed by a well placed musical score. Well worth a rental and any Civil War will definitely want to add this to their collection. 7.5/10

***VIDEO QUALITY***

Gettysburg arrives on Blu-ray with a 1080p transfer in the original aspect ratio of 1.78:1. Anyone used to the Scott's visual style know what to expect with this. Desaturated image to represent a vintage sepia tone was an interesting choice and it works well. The image is crystal clear with fine detail about average. Black levels were quite deep with good shadow delineation. The only drawback is the CGI effects were so-so. 8.5/10

***AUDIO QUALITY***

Audio is provided by a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track. A very pleasing audio presentation that featured some rock solid bass. Surrounds were used to good effect creating a sense of space to the chaos of war happening in screen. Dialogue was consistently crisp and clean.

For anyone whom has watched the marathon sessions of A Christmas Story on TNT over the years probably think that Darren McGavin was only the dad of Ralph Parker in that classic film. Well he was a great actor decades before that and made his portrayal of Mike Hammer a treat to watch. The 78 episodes that are included on this box set of course vary in quality but there is no denying the presence of McGavin. I would recommend a rental if possible first because it does move a bit slow and predictable. The series never took many chances to break from the formula but we are treated to some really nice performances from various stars of that era. 6.5

***VIDEO QUALITY***
Mike Hammer arrives on DVD with a 480i transfer in the original aspect ratio of 1.33:1. The episodes look quite good considering their 6 decades ago vintage and the tech used to film at that time. Contrast was consistent with some relatively good black levels. The overall image does exhibit expected softness but nothing to mar your enjoyment of the program being watched. 6.5/10

***AUDIO QUALITY***

Audio is provided by a Dolby Digital Stereo 2.0 track. A serviceable track that has some minor problems in regards to some hissing and pops from time to time. The theme music sounds a little worn around the edges as well. Dialogue was quite clean though. 5/10

Highlights of the 2011 Masters - DVD Review

When Charl Schwartzel birdied the 18th hole of his final round during the 2011 Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club, he provided a fitting finish to one of the most thrilling closing days in recent major history. While the first three rounds of the Tournament had already provided some magical moments, it was the final day when the fireworks really started, as a host of players were poised to seize the opportunity to wear the most coveted prize in the sport, the Green Jacket.

The South African got off to the perfect start, chipping in for birdie at the first before holing his approach at the third for eagle. Meanwhile, Tiger Woods, aiming to win his fifth Masters, took just 31 shots to complete his first nine and looked as though he could win his first major since the 2008 U.S. Open. Eight players had at least a share of the lead over the closing holes including Adam Scott and Jason Day, two Australians who timed their ascent up the leader board to perfection, each producing some of the best golf of their careers when it mattered most.

There was also Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, who held a four-shot lead heading into the final round. However, the 21-year-old saw his chances fade after a devastating triple-bogey on the 10th. In the end, no one could match Schwartzel and his red-hot putter. He birdied the last four holes to claim his first major in spectacular style on the 50th anniversary of fellow countryman and golfing legend Gary Player’s first victory at Augusta.

***MOVIE REVIEW***

I'm the first to tell you that I'm not a great fan of golf by any means but when the Masters roll around I find myself spending my Sunday afternoon watching the dramatic turns and the 2011 version sure didn't disappoint. The main feature is well made highlights package that thankfully isn't chopped up with ADD editing and flashy sounds as is the norm nowadays. For anyone that wants to relive the thrilling conclusion and heartbreak that we all witnessed in the 10th round take a shot with this DVD. 8.5/10

2011 Masters arrives on DVD with a 480i transfer in the original aspect ratio of 1.78:1. The footage was originally filmed in HD and the transfer to DVD is consistently good. The bold primary colors of the gofers wardrobe to the lush greens of Augusta provided a pleasing image. Detail was about average. Contrast was a solid performer. 8/10

***AUDIO QUALITY***

Audio is provided by a Dolby Digital Stereo 2.0 track. Commentary and music was crisp and clean. Sounds from the green and the Augusta crowd came across well. A good track. 8/10

Black levels were consistent with solid contrast. Colors benefit from good saturation and some bold primaries. Fine detail was also clearly seen in the t-shirt designs and different people in the crowd. There were of course a few minor compression artifacts during ring entrances but nothing obtrusive. A strong performer overall. 8/10

Audio is provided by a Dolby Digital 5.1 track. The commentary (when there was any actual play-by-play) was crisp and clean throughout the show. Entrance music was a standout with good dynamics and some mid bass notes coming across tight and accurate. Surround channels are there for atmospheric crowd din and some light bleeding of sounds from the ring. 8/10

The internet has been abuzz with the confirmation that George Lucas has seen fit to tinker even further with the beloved original trilogy. In my opinion the change that is the worst is the decision to have Darth Vader yell "Noooooooooo" when he picks up the Emperor to save his son Luke at the end of Return of the Jedi. What was once the most powerful and important scene in the whole series has now been ruined and will give most any fan horrible flashbacks to the same "NOOOOOOOOO" that was used in Revenge of the Sith.

In regards to the other changes the Obi-wan Krayt Dragon scream is a disappointing change but not the worst. The Ewoks blinking is barely noticeable and not worth getting bent out of shape. My favorite addition is the CGI Yoda in The Phantom Menace due to the fact that I never felt the puppet looked as good or realistic in the original trilogy. Please understand that I by no means mean to disregard against Frank Oz and his fine work.

I feel to speak any further until I receive the actual discs and have time to review all 6 films fully would be disrespectful to my readers and the crew that has worked on the Blu-ray release.

"YUUUP", if your familiar with the show you know you'll hear this several times an episode from the big buyer on the show, Dave Hester. This eccentric character is accompanied by a group of fellow auction hunters of locked storage bins. The roughly 22 minutes episodes each flow pretty fast and all the "treasure" that they find could very well be in another mans opinion just junk. If you watch Pawn Stars this is a fun alternative to that hit show. 8/10

***VIDEO QUALITY***
Storage Wars arrives on DVD with a 480p in the original aspect ratio of 1.78:1 and the results were quite good. This being a show that consists of on location footage at storage rental places we get a lot of nice natural lighting and solid color reproduction. Contrast levels were consistently pleasing. The show airs in HD and this was a very good standard def presentation of that. 7/10

Audio is provided by a Dolby Digital Stereo 2.0 track. Once again with the bulk of the show shot on location the dialogue from the various bidders and the auctioneer are crisp and clean. The musical score played clear as well. 7/10

***MOVIE REVIEW***

The main feature on Disc 1 runs at 1hr and 30min. This was one of my most anticipated releases and I wasn't disappointed. It all starts at Elimination Chamber 2011 where we see Randy being candidly followed into the back stage area and locker room. From there the doc follows this path all the way to WrestleMania XXVII with some great insight and reflection of his career so far.

One of the highlights is seeing the great family man he has matured into when he has a home show in St. Louis. We are given a glimpse into their home life with his adorable little girl and his beautiful wife. Harley Race is seen near catering at the arena and is so sweet with Randy's daughter. John Cena jokes that he got his food all ready for him. Randy and his Wife speak openly about his drug addiction and how it almost claimed his life and it by the end of this feature you will be proud of the man he has become by focusing on his family and how he now channels his rage into his "Viper" character instead of lashing out at people who care about him.

HHH, John Cena, Batista, Edge, Cowboy Bob Orton, The Miz, and several more superstars are both praising but bluntly truthful , the best Cena calling the old Orton "a Dick and and an asshole". HHH speaks on them bringing him into Evolution and seeing a once in lifetime talent. He also reflects on Randys cockiness and addictions. It first of all was great there was no Matt Striker or Michael Cole anywhere to be seen, and to here people be so candid for once instead of just glowing praise was refreshing. I won't speak anymore on this well made documentary and let you see for yourself, you will not regret purchasing this set. 9/10

Evolution Of A Predator arrives on DVD with a 480p transfer in an aspect ratio of 1.78:1. The main feature is a superbly edited feature and there were no major signs of compression or edge enhancement.Interspersed between the main feature on Disc 1 are new interviews and they are pretty much perfect with deep blacks, rich color saturation, and superb facial details. The matches are presented in their original aspect ratios of 1.33:1 and more current ones in 1.78:1. There is a static image on the sides for the early matches to fill out the image on your HDTV. The content overall is crisp and clean with great color balance and strong black levels. This is a solid presentation that I'm sure will look even better on Blu-ray. 8/10

Audio is provided by a Dolby Digital 5.1 track. While this is a 5.1 track it is for the most part very front heavy. The front channels exhibit some decent stereo separation and there was some subtle crowd din in the rear channels. The commentary on the matches was crisp and clean. Narration on the main feature was perfect, as was the newly shot interview footage. 7/10

Detail was solid but there was softness in the image the first 20 minutes due to Kanes' pyro making the ring and arena presented in a haze. There were some minor compression artifacts during ring entrances but nothing obtrusive. A solid performer, but it is a shame that the best PPV in quite some time doesn't get a Blu-ray release. 8/10

"Git-R-Done", if this phrase makes you cringe then this show isn't for you but for anyone that is willing to dip their toe in this shows waters will be pleasantly surprised. Larry The Cable Guy is a fun host who has a humble and kind southern attitude and really seems to enjoy discovering the many great things our very own country has to offer. You will learn some history and see some beautiful on location scenery sometimes as well. 8/10

***VIDEO QUALITY***

Only In America arrives on DVD with a 1080p transfer in the original aspect ratio of 1.78:1. The show airs in HD but this is a fine standard def presentation. Color reproduction is solid with Larry's wardrobe of flannel coming across well. Contrast and detail is above average. The show is shot on location at the various places the host visits and it looked very natural. 7.5/10

***AUDIO QUALITY***
Audio is provided by a Dolby Digital Stereo 2.0 track. The fun country music cues are well represented and Larry's narration and the natural on location dialogue was consistently crisp and clean. 7/10

Thomas Hardy Collection arrives on DVD with a 480i transfer in the original aspect ratio of 1.33:1. These made for TV miniseries were actually shot on film and considering they were filmed up to 13 years ago they look consistently pretty good. They were inherent signs of print damage but besides that colors came across well, though muted. Contrast was average for this vintage of tv film presentation. 6/10

***AUDIO QUALITY***
Audio is provided by a Dolby Digital Stereo 2.0track. A very pleasing audio presentation with crisp dialogue and a well represented musical score. Stereo separation was good. 6.5/10

Was it really the greatest Fall Classic ever? Five games were decided by one run. Four of the games were won on the very last plate appearance. Three games went extra innings. Two managers played a seven-game chess match. One run was scored in the Game 7, 10-inning masterpiece.

91 World Series arrives on DVD with a 480i transfer in the original aspect ratio of 1.33:1. These are the original 1991 television broadcasts and considering the vintage they are quite nice overall. Colors were good with the almost impossible beauty of the green field to the crisp white Twins uniforms. The reds on the braves unis are really well saturated. Detail was decent with some inherent softness in the image sometimes. It is nice to know that classic sport moments like these are being preserved for future generations to enjoy. 7/10

***AUDIO QUALITY***
Audio is provided by a Dolby 2.0 tracks that include the original TV Broadcast commentary as well as a DVD exclusive option to listen to the Twins Radio Network announcers. Both tracks were crisp and clean with my overall choice being the Twins home announcers because of their passion for their beloved Twins. 7/10

Lucasfilm has released a teaser trailer that gives some very cool glimpses at certain deleted scenes we can expect to see on the Star Wars: The Complete Saga Blu-ray September 16, 2011. The footage for the most part looks rough and it seems that no restoration effort has gone into the deleted scenes and will more than likely just be available for viewing for the first time which is enough reason to celebrate but it would nice if they take the time to clean them and provide at the very least 5.1 audio.Enjoy the video below:

***MOVIE REVIEW***

The main feature on Disc 1 runs just a little under 1hr and 40min. So that breaks down to about 5 minutes per Superstar and turns into nothing more than a fun highlight reel of the first decade of the new millennium. The voice over narration was good but admittedly a little annoying at the start with generic guitar riffs playing in the background. My personal favorite segments was Kurt Angle which shows why he was one the all time greats and why it is such a sad state of affairs to see him on Impact now. Hopefully one day he can clear his head and make one last run in the WWE. Of course Brock Lesnar is put over huge and is the recipient of some of the best superlatives from the interview participants.
The interview participants include The Miz, Alex Riley, Arn Anderson, Santino Marella, John Cena, Josh Mathews, and Matt Striker. The Miz comes across the best as you can see how much this business means to him and how much he truly loved watching these certain competitors. Disc 2 & 3 have a good selection of matches with the absolute highlight of the whole set being the full 60 minute Iron Match between Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar. Another highlight would be a WWE Championship match from Smackdown with Eddie Guererro vs. Rey Mysterio, what a great match this was. It even includes Paul Heyman's promo after the match. I also highly enjoyed seeing the hard work Batista and The undertaker put into their match for WrestleMania 23.
While not the most substantial 3-Disc collection WWE has released, this is a good effort overall and includes a couple 4 star matches for the ages. 8/10

***VIDEO QUALITY***
WWE: Greatest Superstars of the 21st Century arrives on DVD with a 480p transfer in an aspect ratio of 1.78:1. This is a solid that for the most part consists of the original 1.33:1 aspect ratio of the vintage matches and footage with a colored background on the sides of the image to fill out the screen on HDTVs without sacrificing the original footage and stretching it. Early footage was better than expected with good color saturation and nice contrast. Detail was an improvement over 80's footage from the past couple WWE releases. Interspersed between the main feature on Disc 1 are new interviews and they are pretty much perfect with deep blacks, rich color saturation, and superb facial details. A visually pleasing release. 8/10

***AUDIO QUALITY***
Audio is provided by a Dolby Digital 5.1 track. While this is a 5.1 track it is for the most part very front heavy. The front channels exhibit some decent stereo separation and there was some subtle crowd din in the rear channels. The mid 00's matches exhibited crisp and clean commentary and good bleeding of the entrance music. Narration on the main feature was crisp and clean as were the newly shot interviews. 7/10

Baseball's Cathedral arrives on DVD with a 480i transfer in the original aspect ratio of 1.33:1. A mix of vintage and newly shot footage up to 2008 this is a solid presentation overall. Contrast was nice and bright without ever washing the image out. Colors were punchy with vintage black and white footage had for the most part consistent black levels. Speaking of vintage don't expect crystal clear images all the time as there were instances of print damage and lines nut in my opinion it adds to the enjoyment of those classic years of Yankee history. 7/10

***AUDIO QUALITY***

Audio is provided by a Dolby Digital Stereo 2.0 track. New footage and interviews are as expected were crisp and clean as was the voiceover narration. Vintage clips have that old time scratch and pop to it that I personally love. 7/10

Capitol Punishment2011 arrives on DVD with a 480p transfer in the original aspect ratio of 1.78:1. This is a bright and colorful presentation. Primary colors are well saturated. Detail was good and the crowd was easily viewable. There were some light compression artifacts during ring entrances. Overall another consistently strong release. 8/10

***AUDIO QUALITY***

Audio is provided by a Dolby Digital 5.1 track. The best part of the presentation is the entrance music which is provide with some decent bass. The commentary was crisp and clean throughout. Surround channels are mostly used for atmospheric crowd din and light bleeding of the theme music. 7/10

Hello all. Earlier today I had the pleasure of interviewing Pearson Moore Author of Lost: Humanity and the recently released LOST: Identity. Below is a full transcript of the interview:

Blu-ray Journal - Hello Pearson. This is Gerald Orr from Blu-ray Journal. I'm highly looking forward to speaking with you on the subject of LOST as well as your other work today.

Pearson Moore - Terrific. I've been looking forward to this as well.

Blu-ray Journal - So tell us a little about yourself to start.

PM - Sure. I started writing novels about 6 years and got involved writing about Lost about 3 years ago now and started writing on a weekly basis with Season 6 of Lost.

Pearson Moore - Yes.

Blu-ray Journal - When did you actually begin watching Lost?

Pearson Moore - I didn't start watching until Season 3. We happened to be visiting some friends from the Twin Cities, Minnesota. They happened to have the first two seasons right there on bookcase, so I got up early one morning and just put in the first DVD and I don't think my jaw closed for about a half an hour because I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I wondered to myself why I hadn't bothered to experience this before. So I actually went through that first season in the next 17 &1/2 hours straight through. I was glued to that DVD for the whole day.

Blu-ray Journal - I can image. I watched the Season 1 DVD set within two days. I personally start the series though with the original "Pilot" broadcast on September 22, 2004.

Pearson Moore - Oh, so you started right from the beginning?

Blu-ray Journal - Yes. Right from the beginning. The episode that hooked, as I'm sure it did for a lot of fans was the 4th episode "Walkabout". That being said John Locke was my favorite character throughout the series.

Pearson Moore - Certainly Locke as well as Kate were my favorites.

Blu-ray Journal - I never understood the bashing the Kate Austen character got. I would agree that wasn't the most strongly written at times but the portrayal by Evangeline Lilly was phenomenal. Re-watching the series you can see subtle hints and looks she gives certain characters or the way she cares for them that showed her maternal side that was always there and waiting for Aaron. That to me is the best part of going back and knowing how it all ended and not have to worry so much about the mysteries or core mythology and pay attention to those more subtle character based moments.

Pearson Moore - Well I think the mythology and awesome scenes of mystery that were brought up by the show, such as the unusual but compelling situations were essential to the show but the main reason the characters and show worked so well was due to the excellent acting. The director would have to sometime say to them "Okay go here and act like your heading is hurting from time flashes" and they had to convey this emotion, or facial expressions out of nothing. It was their imagination and their faith in their portrayal of what the characters were going through. I know a lot of credit is given to the writer's, and rightfully so for creating such engaging scenes and situations but credit has to bee equally given to actors.

Blu-ray Journal - Especially in Season 2 when Michael Emerson as Ben showed up. That is where I thought the show went to another level in acting terms. The best part was him being matched up with Terry O' Quinn , the scenes between those two characters are the best stuff ever done for TV, you can't match it.

Pearson Moore - I think the other thing that happened there you was the producers respected the casts strength as actors more in Season 2 which led to such intriguing story arcs where we had Ben's manipulation of Locke, Man of Science vs. Man of Faith in regards to Jack and Locke. Also you have Ben vs. Hurley, it started with the idea of Ben as the liar and master manipulator and Hurley the one who was always hesitant to lie. Which resulted in being pulled in three different directions by the writers and I think they did an excellent job, but it was just as much Michale Emerson and rest of the cast portrayals. All these themes meshed together really well and made for some unparalleled television.

Blu-ray Journal - Well in the fall Michale Emerson will be starring in the J.J. Abrams produced series "Persons of Interest" on CBS, but I know personally that it will be nowhere near filling the void that Lost has left since finishing last year.

Pearson Moore - No, I haven't found any such thing either that can fill that void. One show that I found was "Game of Thrones" but that is a very different kind of television program. Where it differs as well is in the fact that George Martin wrote the first novel in 1996 so their was a legion of fans before the HBO series began, and based on the fact that the adaptation into series follows the novels so closely there is not too much mystery in regards to the show. It is an amazing show but it certainly isn't a replacement for Lost. Lost is a once in a generation show.

Blu-ray Journal - I actually felt the same way when Joss Whedon's "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel" went off the air. I thought there is never going to be anything that tops these shows, then Lost came along in the fall of 04 and obliterated that theory and as they say the rest is history. I did have a crisis of faith in Lost when I discovered the first season of Heroes when Lost was on its third season and still watched every episode but at that time just didn't feel that it was answering questions as fast as "Heroes". I was in LA for Star Wars CIV and watched "Through The Looking Glass" in my hotel suite and as you said earlier , my jaw was literally dropped for almost the entire run time of that episode and when it ended with "We have to go back Kate, we have to go back" , I never questioned Lost again as the rightful heir to best series ever.

Pearson Moore - Exactly. Then season 4 just took off running and the didn't stop until "The End".

Blu-ray Journal - I'm at season 4 on my re-watch right now. My favorite season overall. Do you have the Lost:Complete Collection on DVD or Blu-ray? .It was a gorgeous box set . Love that they took the time to include the little ankh, and senet game. It was the attention to detail that not every company strives for when releasing a complete series as a box set.

Pearson Moore - (Laughs) I have both the DVD and the Blu-rays. I wind up using the DVD's on my computer and then the Blu-ray on the big screen. My wife and I actually have played Senet several times. The nice thing about the game is you can make up your own rules. We enjoyed trying different variants on how we thought it should be played.

Blu-ray Journal - One important question I have was do you relate or see your self in any of the characters on the series?

Pearson Moore - Oh boy, well I'm a scientist and have been all my life. So you might think that I would kind of identify with Jack, but I really identify with probably Locke and Rose. I'm very well of the limitations inherent with science and experimentation, scientific ways of thinking. Been aware of that for quite some time. I've done R & D forever for the pharmaceutical company I work for. I've seen models of reality and a model is a cartoon representation of reality if you will, it's not real. I've seen from past experiences that things I thought to be true about a certain molecules behavior turns out in many instances to be not true at all. So I'm very aware of those limits and see science as only a narrow slice of reality and only helps us explain a small part of the world. In reality the world is very closed to us. In essence we're pretty much like a dog reading a newspaper, the reality of the universe is right in front of us but at this time we don't have the conceptual tools to realize it fully. A dog can look at a newspaper but really only understand the a photo, they can't read rest of the universe that is on the page. We're actually like that as well in understanding the way the universe works.
I think we're certainly capable in the future of understanding things without logic or science by expanding the use of our brain faculties.

Blu-ray Journal - Wow, I wholeheartedly agree. So you would be more a man of faith in relating most to Locke and Rose, yes? I always felt that Locke was the key to entire series and still do,despite it ending with Jacks eye closing. It was a beautiful end to Jacks character and a bookend to the pilot but he never would have made it that far if it wasn't for John Locke. If you can connect any one character to the Island it would be Locke.

Pearson Moore - The big love fest during "The End" at the church where everyone is with their constant except Locke and Boone showed what I thought to be Locke's constant is the Island.

Blu-ray Journal - That is why I never understood why people ask "Why wasn't Helen there?" and the simple answer was she was very important to him but that was just one step on his path which was he was always moving towards the Island.

Pearson Moore - Exactly. The Island was his destiny.

Blu-ray Journal - What are your feelings on Walt in regards to what we saw in the epilogue to the series?

Pearson Moore - He is certainly going to be doing something in regards to his dead father. I don't know if that was the extent to what he could do but Hurley stated he didn't want the job as protector and Walt was called "Special" at least three times. Of course the word special is also to the Island and John Locke. More than any character, Locke was called "Special". The theme of mysterious specialness that connected Locke and the Island, Walt was also given that designation so it seems that one strong possibility is that Walt replaced Hurley as Protector of the Island. Of course we don't know that sure and we really don't have because the main theme was of Jack going from a narrow minded man of science to a man of faith. Also the story is the Island being liberated from the Man In Black into the paradise it's supposed to be.

Blu-ray Journal - I definitely agree and feel that it was close to paradise with Hurley running things on the Island. He was always the voice of the audience and had a pure and caring heart. It had to be a much more peaceful time.

Pearson Moore - I think that it was a period of growth and learning for everyone on the Island. In LOST: Humanity one of the things I talk about there is the pairing of Ben and Hurley, which really began quite earlier and was cemented in season 5 with what I like to call the Hot Pocket Incident. There the guy who didn't want to tell a lie and protect everybody on the Island told the biggest lie when he handed himself over to law enforcement and claimed "I did it , I'm your guy . I killed all 4 of them , or 3. I did it" (Laughs) That was the biggest lie of the season and proved that all these scenes are interconnected to the one on connections with the characters. That scene of manipulation kind of became a personal thing between Ben and Hurley. All of the seasons of the show are really grounded in these one on one character arcs. Strange attractions as they call it. With Hurley as Protector we know there is great potential for learning for anyone who will be subject to his and Ben's reign on the Island.
The other aspect is that Hurley isn't going to run things like Jacob and just bring people to the Island for his own reasons and let them die if that is their fate. That's not Hurley's way and we got a glimmer of that in "The End" when Ben told him to run things his won way "That's how Jacob ran things, you can make up your own rules" , "Do what you do best, taking care of people". So that certainly must have been what they did. Then of course they went off Island together to take Walt back.

Blu-ray Journal - A "Recruit"

Pearson Moore - Yes. Ben and Hurley's relationship with each other made them a whole, as where the relationship between Jacob an MIB was never a life giving kind of relationship. First thing that Jacob does when he is the new Protector is throw his brother to his death. They never had a healthy relationship as to where Ben always had the motivation to plan things and Hurley taking care of everyone which led to their governance of the Island being in perfect balance.

Blu-ray Journal - Speaking of Jacob and MIB, what were your initial thoughts on "Across The Sea"?

Pearson Moore - I certainly felt that it fit right in as part of the series. The only the thing that kind of struck me upon first viewing was the unnatural nature of the light. When I first saw the light it seemed out of place, it seemed something apart. But on reflection it fit right in with the Frozen Donkey Wheel, Electromagnetic anomalies, or when the Island was time jumping. So it fit in, but my immediate impression was that it didn't and left me kind of disoriented for a while but of course that went away. It also fit in with many fans theories that Jacob and the entity or nemesis we know as Man In Black were brothers.

Blu-ray Journal - Do you feel that "Mother" herself was at a time a Smoke Monster or connected to the entity of darkness?

Pearson Moore - Well I think that either she was the Smoke Monster herself and to back that up you could say how did she know that going down to the source you could possibly suffer a fate worse than death without speaking from personal experience. Of course the other strong indicator was with the ease in her destroying the Roman village. So she either was the Smoke Monster or to an extent had powers that were the same as the entity. I don't know if it really matters in regards to the main story that show told but it is fun to speculate. The way I describe The Source is as the figurative and literal beginning for everything on the Island. It is our way of understanding the Island.

Blu-ray Journal - I think your thoughts on the Source are spot on. Would you agree that the Smoke Monster wasn't just formed when Jacob through MIB down the stream but it is it's own separate entity that thrives on each individuals fears, such as Pennywise the Clown in Stephen King's novel "IT"?

Pearson Moore - That's consistent with, I won't say theories but ways of looking at the entity. You could say that the Smoke Monster is more or less a mirror if ourselves and the the characters deepest fears. That is a very productive way of looking at it.

Blu-ray Journal - Speaking of mirrors, did you find any signifigance in the fact that "The End" aired on the 23rd of May last year and Jack was candidate #23? Or was it just mere coincidence?

Pearson Moore - I don't know if they planned if they planned that or not. There was also speculation when "LA X" aired on February 2nd and that might possibly tie into time travel.

Blu-ray Journal - (Laughs) Yeah, Groundhog Day. Great Bill Murray film by the way.

Pearson Moore - Certainly though the number 23 has relevance as being the only prime number in regards to the final candidates. That's a significant number in itself because of that. Really Jack was the one who stood out most on the show as well from a mythological point of view.

Blu-ray Journal - I agree. Jack's story arc was executed beautifully. Staying with that though it still pains me to see complaints that John Locke was just a useless pawn and in the end meant nothing in the grand scheme of the show. I feel that is foolish to think so, Locke was the main key, the man of faith whom from the episode "White Rabbit" to "The End" was leading our hero to his ultimate destiny and in many ways Jack became a mirror of John Locke and completed both of their journeys with bravery.

Pearson Moore - Exactly. Jack is Locke's disciple by "The End" and he even states that "You're nothing like John Locke. You disgrace his memory by wearing his face but your nothing. Turns out he was right about most everything, I only wish I could have told him that before he died." The only way Jack was able to move from being a man of science to a man of faith was to follow the template that Locke left. Without Locke he wouldn't have been able to become the successor, so Locke was the sacrifice that the Island demanded.

Blu-ray Journal - Spot on. Locke willingly accepted that fate too when near the Frozen Donkey Wheel the MIB appeared as Christian and stated "You have to die, that's why it's called a sacrifice". There was no hesitation in Locke accepting what he had to do. Most of the other characters would disregard what the MIB had to say and wouldn't sacrifice themselves for the Island. Remember Jack at one point yelled at Lock "It's just and Island John, it doesn't need anything".

Pearson Moore - That's true. Going back now and re-watching the show they had it planned that Jack was the main hero and that is why he is a man of science and clearly the character that is farthest away from believing in the Island or what is going on around them an he eventually comes to accept his destiny after personal growth.

Blu-ray Journal - Fantastic. Well obviously we can talk about Lost all day , I just have a couple more questions.

Pearson Moore - Certainly.

Blu-ray Journal - I see you're going to be at the Lost Conference in New Orleans?

Pearson Moore - Yes, I'm going to do a presentation revolving around chaos theory and how that gets thrown around into Lost.

Blu-ray Journal - Nice. Could be that possibly be your next subject to continue in novel form after LOST: Humanity and LOST: Identity?

Pearson Moore - Probably not on Lost. Unless there is some huge growth of interest in Lost I'll probably continue instead with my book of essays on "Game of Thrones". In a couple months my second fiction novel should be released "Intolerable Loyalty" which is about the Revolutionary War from the French Canadian
perspective. It follows a spy from Boston who goes to Quebec and tries to recruit people to the colonists side.

Blu-ray Journal - Sounds like a great read and a different point of view than what most Americans have read in regards to the Revolutionary War.

Pearson Moore - I think that they're are certainly elements that everyone can get into and it at the same time is a challenge to be reading it from a new point of view.

Blu-ray Journal - One quick theory I have on the Flash Sideways. I feel looking at the ending more scientifically based, that their is a possibility that everything that was happening to the people in the church was such as the light was a sign that their consciousness letting go and that the Island then downloaded them into the Source. In that way they are part of the Island forever.

Pearson Moore - That is certainly interesting. I've never thought of that, but I don't see why there wouldn't be any reason that couldn't be a valid theory. MIB went down in the Source and became in a way tied to the Island as did Jack in his own way went down there and became tied to the Island. He was able to endure the electromagnetic energy like Desmond had earlier. He was transformed by his voyage down into the Source, so I feel what you're suggesting is a more radical but valid point.

Blu-ray Journal - Thank you. I know it's a bit out there but that is the greatest gift the Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cue gave us, the opportunity to use our own minds and still wildly theorize what happened.

Pearson Moore - Agreed. I don't think you need to look at the ending the way most people are in that it's just the afterlife.

Blu-ray Journal - Correct. It's not that black and white actually.

Pearson Moore - What we saw in the church had to with faith but we also saw symbols on the stained glass for several religions and it was more of a representation of the idea of faith which is not necessarily tied to the normal religious experience that most viewers thought the characters were going through.

Blu-ray Journal - It's really more what each individuals interpretation watching it is. Your own interpretation of the Source and what the Island is are my personal favorites.

Pearson Moore - Well thank you.

Reds Memories arrives on DVD with a 480i transfer in the original aspect ratio of 1.33:1. The overall image is a mix of new and vintage footage with the more recent clips showing better color reproduction and detail. I found the vintage footage to still show a good image considering the tech used back then to film those games. Of course there were some instances of softness in the image but nothing overly intrusive. 7/10

I connected this cable to my full assortment of components throughout my reviewing period and I'm happy to report that each and every time it provided a rock solid connection. There were no handshaking issues to speak of with the exception of switching once to the PS3. The feature list is in the top of its class with 24k Gold-Plated Contacts and connectors, flexible braided jacket, and triple metal shielding for a high quality construction. I found the metal shell to really help in connecting and disconecting the cable and it also gave some heft to the connection that you just don't get with a $10 cable at your local Wal-Mart. The Bulit-In Ethernet Channel and Audio Return Channel (ARC) connection is also solidly constructed. The ethernet channel will allow the transmission of an ethernet signal across the HDMI cable, so in the future when even more devices utilize this feature you'll be all set. I can only finish this review by stating the simple fact that if you're in the market for an HDMI cable that performs flawlessly with no issues and has a top of the line build quality then look no further friends. 10/10

Billy Season 3 arrives on DVD with a 480i transfer in the original aspect ratio of 1.33:1. Unfortunately A&E sees fit in this HD age to still release 4:3 presentations. With that being said the overall image is okay with some good black levels and decent detail. 5/10

***AUDIO QUALITY***
Audio is provided by a Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo track. The dialogue and music is crisp and clean. Environmental effects were natural but kept to a minimum. 6/10
