Friday October 9,2009 will be a day I will never forget.I had the pleasure of attending the breathtaking event known as The Lord Of The Rings:Fellowship Of The Ring Concert at Radio City Musc Hall.The show started at 7:30pm to a full house of 5,000 Lord Of The Ring fans.Ludwig Wicki conducted over 300 musicians that included The 21st Century Orchestra Lucerne, The Collegiate Chorale, and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus . They were accompanied by the amazing voice of Soprano Kaitlyn Lusk who made many fans shed a tear with her heatrbreaking vocals that accompany Gandalf's fall into shadow and the end credits song "May It Be.The theatrical version of the film was shown and included English subtitles backed up by a crisp clean dialogue track and light sound effects.If I was to make any criticism it would be the sound effects could have used more in the bass department but it is at the same time understandable that the producers were featuring the gorgeous musical score being played live than impact of the sound effects.I most enjoyed seeing what sections of the orchestra were used for some of my favorite themes from my personal favorite film score of all time.It was an absolute joy to hear Howard Shore's iconic score being played live and note perfect.It breathed throughout the great hall and it was over 3 hours of pure nirvana.
The night was made more special after the end credits and the audience gave all the performers a standing ovation that lasted for 10 minutes.The applause increased as everyone realized that appearing from stage right were actors Elijah Wood, Billy Boyd, and composer Howard Shore.As for the audience they all were myself included cheering an clapping the whole time.The biggest screams of joy were by the ladies of the audience for Orlando Bloom as Legolas.When Aragorn defends Boromir and decapitates the cold blooded Lurtz's head off there was a wave of energy that surged through the building from the audiences reaction.Every cute and funny scene with the Hobbit's was accompanied by a roar of laughter from the crowd.It was such a wonderful time to experience this masterpiece again with a lively audience that attended Friday night.
I want to thank the producers,orchestra,all performers for providing a night of pure magic that will never be forgotten.When all was said and done on the screen appeared the announcement that next year they will be back for The Lord Of The Rings:The Two Towers on October 8&9,2010 at Radio City Music Hall .I look forward to seeing you all there next year.
