Earl Stone (Clint Eastwood) is a man in his 80s who is broke, alone and facing foreclosure of his business when he is offered a job that simply requires him to drive. Easy enough, but, unbeknownst to Earl, he’s just signed on as a drug courier for the cartel. He does well—so well, in fact, that his cargo increases exponentially, and Earl is assigned a handler. But he isn’t the only one keeping tabs on Earl; the mysterious new drug mule has also hit the radar of hard-charging DEA agent Colin Bates (Bradley Cooper). And even as his money problems become a thing of the past, Earl’s past mistakes start to weigh heavily on him, and it’s uncertain if he’ll have time to right those wrongs before law enforcement, or the cartel’s enforcers, catch up to him.
The Mule arrives on 4K UHD Blu-ray with a 2160p presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio. - The movie has some beautiful vistas on the open road besides that though this isn't the most visually stunning disc to watch. Nor should anyone have expected that from the start anyways since this is a gritty crime drama that has a natural look. Colors range from gorgeous desert hues to muted grey and beige. There are some moments where colors pop when we see day lilies blooming. Black levels have more depth and shadow detail over the Blu-ray. The movie was shot digitally and is sourced from a 2k digital intermediate resulting in a crisp and detailed presentation. Technically there are no faults just the look of the movie doesn't lend itself to demo worthy material.
Audio is provided by a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track. - Some may complain that there is no Dolby Atmos track but after you watch you'll know why that it's not a big loss. This is a drama and not an action movie. There are few brief blasts of gunfire and some nice panning effects and bleeding through channels with the great music choices that Earl has while driving on his mule runs. Dialogue reproduction was excellent. While LFE performance isn't not a room rattling experience when needed bass has good depth and response.
