When the child Arthur’s father is murdered, Vortigern (Jude Law), Arthur’s uncle, seizes the crown. Robbed of his birthright and with no idea who he truly is, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, his life is turned upside down and he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy…whether he likes it or not.
King Arthur while not loved by critics is a fun and quirky film. Guy Ritchie adds his trademark flashbacks and rapid fire dialogue in spots. Charlie Hunnam cuts a strong figure of Arthur who is the reluctant hero. Jude Law was an effective villain though I do wish we had a couple more scenes between him and Eric Bana at the beginning. The action rarely lets up and this is more a blend of the King Arthur legend with interesting fantasy elements. 8/10
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword arrives on 4K UHD Blu-ray with a 2160p transfer in the aspect ratio of 2.40:1 - The 4K Ultra HD presentation HDR boost helps bring a vividness to chain mail, lush green mountains and the fantastical battle scenes. Black levels are deep but there are a few moments where it looks a little faded. The image is crisp and glossy though there are scenes that show softness and I would chalk these up to the visual look not a problem with the transfer. No issues with banding. 8.5/10
Audio is provided by a Dolby Atmos track. - The thick English brogues have no problems with the crystal clear dialogue. Environmental effects, soaring eagles, fire, swords slashing all benefit from the additional surround and overhead channels. LFE performance was excellent exhibiting deep and precise bass. The score is well balanced in the mix. 9/10
