Former race car driver Brent Magna (Hawke) is pitted against the clock. Desperately trying to save the life of his kidnapped wife, Brent commandeers a custom Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake, taking it and its unwitting owner (Gomez) on a high-speed race against time, at the command of the mysterious villain holding his wife hostage.
A perfectly serviceable car chase thriller with some well executed action and spectacular stunts but falls a bit short overall. Ethan Hawke stars as Brent Magna and does the best with the material he is given. The problem for me comes with the casting choice of Selena Gomez who is not well suited for the film and should maybe choose a new career path. I did enjoy the movie while watching it but would recommend a rental to those on the fence. 7/10
Getaway arrives on Blu-ray with a 1080p transfer in the aspect ratio of 2.40:1. - It must be mentioned that several different cameras and techniques were used so overall consistency is a little problematic. The image is a bit bland and has moments where it looks a little washed out in darker scenes though black levels are quite deep with good shadow delineation. Colors have a natural tone. Fine detail is where this presentation shines. Facial hair, clothing textures, and of course the cars used in the action scenes are well defined and razor sharp. A transfer that stays faithful to the director's vision is what you are given here. 8/10
Audio is provided by a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track. - A powerful and dynamic track that will have you feeling like you're in the middle of the action. Dialogue is always crystal clear and staying front and center. Surrounds are used primarily to fill the room during the action sequences. The LFE channel will pound weaker subs into submission with throttling bass, and deep chest thumping explosions. 9.5/10
