21 & Over Blu-ray Review

***SYNOPSIS***

From the writers of The Hangover comes a reckless and raunchy comedy 21 years in the making! On the day before a critical med school interview, straight-A college student Jeff Chang (Justin Chong, Twilight) gets a surprise visit from his two best buds (Skylar Astin, Pitch Perfect and Miles Teller, Project X) to celebrate his 21st birthday. In no mood to party, Jeff finally agrees to a single drink, which quickly leads to an over-the-top, out-of-control night filled with epic beer pong, smoking hot coeds...and one angry buffalo. Can Jeff’s friends get their plastered pal cleaned up in time for his morning appointment? It’s worth a shot!

***MOVIE REVIEW***

Featuring a fairly likeable cast with a script from the comedy minds that wrote The Hangover this is a perfectly serviceable summer rental. I laughed quite heartily at a few sight gags and the humor is in tune with past college comedies but never comes close to reaching the heights of a classic like Animal House. The film moves at a pretty brisk pace and makes it's 93 minutes not drag on you. Worth at least a rental 7/10

***VIDEO QUALITY***

21 & Over arrives on Blu-ray with a 1080p transfer in the aspect ratio of 2.40:1. - A better than expected faithful reproduction of the digitally shot comedy. Colors have a nice warm tone to them. Black levels were solid but there were a few instances of crushing. Noise was noticeable in darker scenes but was never obtrusive. No signs of edge enhancement was noticed. 8/10

***AUDIO QUALITY***

Audio is provided by a DTS -HD Master Audio 5.1 track. - The urban soundtrack boomed with great clarity and deep bass. Surrounds are used to nice effect for ambiance. Dialogue was crisp and always intelligible even when things get a bit crazy. 8/10

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone Blu-ray Review

***SYNOPSIS***

Superstar magicians Burt Wonderstone (Steve Carell) and Anton Marvelton (Steve Buscemi) have ruled the Las Vegas strip for years, raking in millions with illusions as big as Burt’s growing ego. But lately the duo's greatest deception is their public friendship, while secretly they’ve grown to loathe each other.

Facing cutthroat competition from guerilla street magician Steve Gray (Jim Carrey), whose cult following surges with each outrageous stunt, even their show looks stale. But there’s still a chance Burt and Anton can save the act – both onstage and off – if Burt can get back in touch with what made him love magic in the first place. Own “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone” on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and Digital Download 6/25

***VIDEO QUALITY***

Burt Wonderstone arrives on Blu-ray with a 1080p transfer in the aspect ratio of 2.40:1. - It is no illusion that this is a very filmic transfer with some minor problems. I was expecting the magic performance scenes to be the standouts but instead they were bland and flat. Colors had a washed out look during daylight scenes out in Vegas. Black levels were deep but there were signs of crushing which choked shadow detail. Detail was pleasing with sharp close ups and a good sense of texture in the wardrobes. There were instances of aliasing and noise in a couple of scenes. 7.5/10

***AUDIO QUALITY***

Audio is provided by a DTS -HD Master Audio 5.1 track. - There isn't much wonder to this front heavy mix. Dialogue was always clean crystal clear. Surrounds are used but are subdued overall. During some of the magic performances things get more lively with good directional effects and smooth pans. Bass was precise but underwhelming. No pops or hisses were heard. 7.5/10

***SPECIAL FEATURES***
