The LEGO Movie: Everything Is Awesome Edition Blu-ray Review

**SYNOPSIS**

The original 3D computer-animated story follows Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as The Special, the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.

**MOVIE REVIEW**

The LEGO Movie is a brilliant CG animated film and also a breath of fresh air. It is super clever and bright while also trying to tell a little deeper story then you would think at first glance. The third act twist is handled well and the comedic star that is a part of it plays their character straight but remains funny. The voice work by all involved is stellar, especially Will Arnett as Batman. The animation is like having LEGO toys come to life over photo realistic backgrounds, it is visually stunning. The film goes by in a brisk 1hr and 42 minutes with hardly a slow down in the action and awesomeness. I highly recommend that you pick up this instant classic Tuesday the 17th. 10/10

**VIDEO QUALITY**

The LEGO Movie arrives on Blu-ray with a 1080p transfer in the aspect ratio of 2.39:1 - I don't use the word too often but here it is valid, this transfer is flawless from start to finish. Every color in the rainbow pops off the screen and dazzles the eyes. In the third act fleshtones appeared natural. Blacks were deep and rich with no crushing. Fine detail and clarity is on another level. The LEGO characters in the movie look just as they should, with all the little details in accessories, wardrobe and even the little separation lines on the torso connecting to the legs. The photo realistic locales have excellent depth of field. The 3D version retains the eye popping color reproduction and detail. I did not notice any crosstalk or dimness to the 3D presentation thankfully. Everything is awesome indeed! 10/10

**AUDIO QUALITY**

Audio is provided by a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track. - While my eyes were in awe of the video my ears were enjoying one of the most dynamic audio tracks to be released this year. The voice work and dialogue comes through crystal clear even during the more action heavy moments. LFE reproduction exhibited bass that was bold and powerful. Explosive action created some deep rumbles and thunderous crashes. Surrounds are active throughout and made me feel as though I was in the world of LEGO alongside Emmet and Wyldstyle. Directional and environmental effects are razor sharp and had a life like quality to them. Oh and in case you're wondering the song "Everything Is Awesome" and rest of the music sounds brilliant. I can find no fault with this presentation. 10/10
