Broken City Blu-ray Disc Review

***SYNOPSIS***

Seven years after being forced to resign as a New York police officer, private detective Billy Taggart (Wahlberg) takes on his toughest case yet. Following the wife (Zeta-Jones) of the city's hard-nosed mayor (Crowe), who's convinced she's cheating on him. But by the time the mayor reveals his true intentions, Billy is already in too deep. Now, with his freedom - and quite possibly his life - on the line, Billy will risk it all in a desperate bid to expose the truth, and seek redemption in a city where second chances don't come cheap.

***VIDEO QUALITY***

Broken City arrives on Blu-ray with a 1080p transfer in the aspect ratio of 2.40:1. - This was a very film-like presentation. Colors, especially skin tones were warm. Black levels were deep but there were a few scenes where it crushed shadows and took away detail. Speaking of detail textures looked very lifelike and facial closeups showed the intensity of the actor's involved. I did notice some light noise in darker scenes but nothing to mar an overall very pleasing transfer. 8/10

***AUDIO QUALITY***

Audio is provided by a DTS -HD Master Audio 5.1 track. - This is a heavily dialogue driven film but there are a few moments where things pick up and the track is more than adept at conveying the action on screen. LFE was tight and precise when called upon. Surrounds were used effectively to bring the listener into the environment while sounding natural and realistic. As I said this is a dialogue heavy track and it was always clear and intelligible 8.5/10
