'Hot Tub Time Machine' - Blu-ray Disc Review

***SYNOPSIS*** - Three friends with less-than-fulfilling lives get the chance to go back and do it all again in the uproarious comedy Hot Tub Time Machine. The film stars John Cusack (High Fidelity), Craig Robinson (“The Office”) and Rob Corddry (“The Daily Show with Jon Stewart”) as buddies looking to recapture a little of their youthful glory by returning to the ski resort where they used to party. After a crazy night of drinking in the hot tub, they realize that they’ve been transported back to the 80s and into the bodies of their younger selves. Now they have to decide whether they should change their futures while wading through a sea of spandex, blue eye shadow and heavy metal hair bands. Hot Tub Time Machine also features a hilarious supporting cast including comedy legend Chevy Chase (Caddyshack), Crispin Glover (Back To The Future) and Clark Duke (Kick-Ass).

***VIDEO QUALITY*** - arrives on Blu-ray with a 1080p transfer utilizing the MPEG-4 codec in the original aspect ratio of 1.85:1. This is a really warm and colorful transfer for a great comedy. The bodacious 80's clothing and style of the film make for a wonderful rainbow of primary colors that exhibit perfect saturation with no bleeding. Blacks were rock solid except for a few instances of a more grayish tone than true black but nothing distracting. Another strong aspect is contrast is kept at just the right balance and never blows out whites. I noticed some really good detail in the image, especially when looking at the outrageous outfits. There were no signs of DNR or artificial edge enhancement. A very pleasing, filmic presentation earns this title a solid 9/10

***AUDIO QUALITY*** - Audio is provided by a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track. For a comedy this track packs some decent punch in the LFE from the excellent selection of 80's songs. Dialogue is crisp and clear throughout. Surround activity is average but adds some decent atmosphere in outside scenes and whenever the previously mentioned tubular soundtrack is kicked in the track exhibits room filling sound.Overall a strong comedy track.9/10
