In “Annabelle: Creation,” several years after the tragic death of their young daughter, a doll maker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from a shut-down orphanage into their home. They soon become the target of the doll maker’s possessed creation, Annabelle.
The Conjuring series has produced two of the finest horror films of the past decade. The firs spinoff Annabelle was a bit dull and not overly memorable. The prequel Annabelle: Creation I can gladly say is a much better film with a a genuine sense of eeriness within the first minute. The young actresses give solid performances. The last 20 minutes really ramps up the scares and a little bit of blood to for gore fans. Keep your eye out for a glimpse of The Nun who will have her own film as the next spinoff. I would recommend adding this title to your collection. 8/10
Annabelle: Creation arrives on Blu-ray with a 1080p transfer in the aspect ratio of 2.40:1 - Colors have a warm appearance with gold and orange tones, rich brown woods and some splashes of light blues and crisp yellows. Black levels were deep and inky with no sacrifice in shadow details. The image is pristine and every little detail in clothing, the Annabelle doll and outdoor landscapes is beautifully rendered. Ni compression artifacts or banding noticed. 9/10
Audio is provided by a Dolby Atmos track. - Dialogue reproduction was excellent. The additional and precise channels do wonders with this track when things start to get more scary, effects come from all over the listening area and will have you gripping your chair hoping that creepy doll isn't behind you. Deep, full bass can make you jump with quick sudden thumps for a couple of jump scares as well as when all hell breaks loose in the final 20 minutes.9/10
