Based on the best selling book by master storyteller Nicholas Sparks, The Longest Ride will make you believe in true love. When Luke (Scott Eastwood) a former champion bull rider attempting a comeback, meets Sophia (Britt Robertson), a college student preparing for her dream job in New York, they embark on an extraordinary - yet uncertain - romantic journey. As conflicting paths test their budding relationship, Luke and Sophia make a fateful connection with Ira (Allen Alda), whose heartwarming memories of his own marriage inspire the young couple and change their lives forever.
The Longest Ride arrives on Blu-ray with a 1080p transfer in the aspect ratio of 2.40:1 - Colors and fleshtones have a natural appearance throughout, saturation was perfect balanced. Black levels were deep but not overly inky. There is a stylistic choice for flashback scenes to have a vintage look to them, while the modern part of the story exhibits excellent clarity and revealing fine details in pores, individual hairs and clothing textures. Thankfully this solid presentation has zero problems with artifacts to speak of. 8.5/10
Audio is provided by a DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 track. - While 7.1 channels is a bit overkill for a film in this genre the results are welcome. Dialogue was clearly presented front and center. Surrounds were quite immersive when Luke is in the competitive and dangerous world of bull riding. LFE performance was solid with added heft to the movements of the bulls and the lush score. 8.5/10
