Jack the Giant Slayer on Blu-ray Combo Pack June 18th

Warner Bros Home Entertainment has officially announced the live action fantasy tale Jack the Giant Slayer will arrive as a 3-Disc Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD/ UV Digital Copy Combo Pack on June 18,2013. A 2-Disc Blu-ray/DVD/UV Digital Copy option will also be available. Below are official details from the press release:





**SYNOPSIS**


Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom, its people and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend— and gets the chance to become a legend himself.

Acclaimed filmmaker Bryan Singer directs the family adventure “Jack the Giant Slayer,” starring Nicholas Hoult as Jack. The film also stars Eleanor Tomlinson as Princess Isabelle; Stanley Tucci as the deceitful Roderick; Ian McShane as Isabelle's father, the besieged King Brahmwell; Bill Nighy as General Fallon, the ferocious two-headed leader of the giant army; and Ewan McGregor as the loyal knight Elmont.

Gangster Squad Blu-ray Review

***SYNOPSIS***


Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and—if he has his way—every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians he has under his thumb. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop...except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Sgt. Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen's world apart.





***VIDEO QUALITY***


Gangster Squad arrives on Blu-ray with a 1080p transfer in the aspect ratio of 2.40:1. Warm, rich tones are the highlight of this presentation. Color saturation was deep and well balanced. Black levels were inky without lessening the impressive shadow detail. Fine detail was superb and really shows off the clothes and style of that era. I did note a few instances of softness in the image but nothing to mar the overall score of this cinematic presentation. 9/10


***AUDIO QUALITY***


Audio is provided by a DTS -HD Master Audio 5.1 track. - Now this was fun! The LFE channel pulverizes the listener with deep and tight punches of gunfire. There were a few moments where I could actually feel a thump to the chest from the shotgun blasts. Dialogue was clean and intelligible through all the mayhem on screen. Surround speakers are used to great effect to draw you in. Seamless pans and directional effects had me dead center int he action. One of the best tracks of the year so far. 9.5/10

* Audio Commentary - Director Ruben Fleischer provides a few interesting details but this is for the most part a very dry listen.

* The Gangland Files (1080p) - A Picture-in-Picture mode with a lot of info you will see on the other extras.

* Focus Points: The Set-Up (1080p, 46min) - Here we get 15 short featurettes that take you behind the scenes. It is worth taking the time to watch these.

* Deleted Scenes (1080p, 12min) - Director Ruben Fleischer introduces seven deleted scenes.

* Then and Now Locations (1080p, 8min)- Here we see how the locations looked decades ago and in modern times with some really nice vintage and new photographs.

* Tough Guys with Style (1080p, 5min) - The cast gives there thoughts on 1940's LA

* Rogues Gallery: Mickey Cohen (480p, 47min) - William Devane narrates this profile of Mickey Cohen
