Blade Runner 2049 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray January 16th

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has officially announced they will release Blade Runner 20149 to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack, 3D Blu-ray Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD on January 16, 2018. The 4K Blu-ray specs are set to be 2160p video in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio and a Dolby Atmos audio track. Below are the official details:

From Oscar-nominated director Denis Villeneuve (“Arrival”) comes Alcon Entertainment’s science fiction thriller “Blade Runner 2049.” Sure as it is to delight ‘Blade Runner’ fans, this stunningly elegant follow-up doesn’t depend on having seen the original.

The film stars Oscar nominees Ryan Gosling (“La La Land”) as K, and Harrison Ford (the “Star Wars” films, “Witness”), reprising the role of Rick Deckard. The main international cast also includes Ana de Armas (“War Dogs”), Sylvia Hoeks (“Renegades”), Robin Wright (“Wonder Woman”), Mackenzie Davis (“The Martian”), Carla Juri (“Brimstone”), and Lennie James (“The Walking Dead”), with Dave Bautista (the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films) and Oscar winner Jared Leto (“Dallas Buyers Club”).

Multiple Oscar nominee Ridley Scott (“The Martian,” “Gladiator”), who directed the first “Blade Runner,” is an executive producer. Bill Carraro served as executive producer and unit production manager.

“Blade Runner 2049” will be available on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack for $44.95, Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack for $44.95, Blu-ray Combo Pack for $35.99 and DVD for $28.98. The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack features an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc with the theatrical version in 4K with HDR and a Blu-ray disc also featuring the theatrical version. The Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack features the theatrical version of the film in 3D hi-definition, hi-definition and standard definition; the Blu-ray Combo Pack features the theatrical version of the film in hi-definition on Blu-ray; and the DVD features the theatrical version in standard definition. The Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack and Blu-ray Combo Pack include a digital version of the movie in Digital HD with UltraViolet. Fans can also own “Blade Runner 2049” via purchase from digital retailers beginning December 26th.

Dunkirk 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Review

**SYNOPSIS**


“Dunkirk” opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in. The story unfolds on land, sea and air. RAF Spitfires engage the enemy in the skies above the Channel, trying to protect the defenseless men below. Meanwhile, hundreds of small boats manned by both military and civilians are mounting a desperate rescue effort, risking their lives in a race against time to save even a fraction of their army.

Warner Bros. Pictures presents a Syncopy Production, a film by Christopher Nolan, “Dunkirk.”










**MOVIE REVIEW**


Director Christopher Nolan brings the true story of Dunkirk to vivid life in this masterful film. It would be safe to say some viewers will be disoriented on first viewing due to the non-linear story structure, thankfully everything makes sense in the end and I found myself rewatching it a few hours later all over again before taking time to watch the enjoyable special features disc. The cast is made of very fresh and believable faces. There are a few stars sprinkled throughout who blend perfectly into their roles, especially Tom Hardy as a spitfire pilot doing all he can to stop the enemy from bombing the soldiers like sitting ducks in the ocean. This is one of the finest films released this year. 9/10


**VIDEO QUALITY**


Dunkirk arrives on 4K UHD Blu-ray with a 2160p transfer in a varying aspect ratio that features some gorgeous IMAX sequences. - The standard Blu-ray included is a beautiful and faithful presentation. IMAX sequences take full advantage of the format and the most stunning shots are in the cockpit with the spitfires chasing down the enemy. Instrument clusters and clothing textures are perfectly rendered with amazing clarity. Colors are a mix of cold blues, grays, warmer tones in clothing and wood. Black levels were deep while great shadow detail in darker scenes helps you see what the director intended. 9/10 for Blu-ray.

The 4K Ultra HD presentation is not a revelation but the uptick in resolution makes the IMAX sequences, which there are many even more thrilling and cinematic. HDR added a slight boost to color reproduction but really shines with some nice bright highlights. 9.5/10 for 4K Ultra HD.


**AUDIO QUALITY**


Audio is provided by a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track. - Both the 4K and standard Blu-ray discs contain the 5.1 track. This is a choice made by director Christopher Nolan and while some enthusiasts may complain that there is no Dolby Atmos option this is a reference quality presentation. Bone crunching depth in explosions tear through the viewing area. Surround activity is engaging with bullets whizzing past your ears, voices crying from all sides, water filling into a drowning plane, etc. Dialogue reproduction was for the most part excellent but I did notice a couple moments I didn't understand Tom Hardy's pilot as easy as the other characters. No issues with hissing or popping. 10/10
