Motherless Brooklyn Blu-ray January 28th

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has announced they will release Motherless Brooklyn to Blu-ray and DVD on January 29, 2020. The Blu-ray specs are set to be 10800p video in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio and a DTS-HD MA track for audio. Below are the official details:

From the Oscar-nominated director-writer-producer-star Edward Norton (“Birdman,” “American History X,” “Primal Fear”) comes the magnetic drama “Motherless Brooklyn.” Inspired by Jonathan Lethem’s novel by the same name, Norton aimed to transpose Lethem’s contemporary characters into a different period and plot and gave it a distinctive atmosphere by re-setting the drama in the 1950s—a time of great change in New York City.

The film’s stellar ensemble cast includes Bruce Willis (the “Die Hard” films, “Moonrise Kingdom”), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (“A Wrinkle in Time,” “Beyond the Lights”), Bobby Cannavale (“I, Tonya”), Cherry Jones (“Boy Erased,” TV’s “24”), Michael Kenneth Williams (“When They See Us,” TV’s “The Wire”), Leslie Mann (“The Other Woman,” “Blockers”), Ethan Suplee (“The Wolf of Wall Street”), Dallas Roberts (“Dallas Buyers Club”), Josh Pais (“The Joker,” TV’s “Ray Donovan”), Robert Ray Wisdom (TV’s “The Fix”), Fisher Stevens (TV’s “The Blacklist”), Oscar nominee Alec Baldwin (“The Cooler,” “BlacKkKlansman,” “The Departed”) and Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe (“At Eternity’s Gate,” “The Florida Project”).

Norton produced “Motherless Brooklyn” with his Class 5 Films producing partner Bill Migliore, and MWM Studios’ Gigi Pritzker and Rachel Shane, and Michael Bederman. Adrian Alperovich, Sue Kroll, Daniel Nadler, Robert F. Smith and Brian Niranjan Sheth served as executive producers.

Behind the scenes, Norton collaborated with two-time Oscar-nominated director of photography Dick Pope (“Mr. Turner,” “The Illusionist”), production designer Beth Mickle (“Drive,” “Collateral Beauty”), Oscar-nominated editor Joe Klotz (“Precious,” “The Butler”) and costume designer Amy Roth (TV’s “The Looming Tower,” “Indignation”).

Music plays an important role in setting the tone and establishing the period of “Motherless Brooklyn.” The Golden Globe-nominated score is composed by Daniel Pemberton (“Steve Jobs,” “All the Money in the World,” “Oceans 8,” “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”), and features Wynton Marsalis on the trumpet. The film also features an original song written and performed by Thom Yorke.

Warner Bros. Pictures presents a Class 5 Films and MWM Studios Production, “Motherless Brooklyn.”

“Motherless Brooklyn” will be available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital. The Blu-ray features a Blu-ray disc with the film and special features in hi-definition and a Digital version of the movie. The DVD features the film and special features in standard definition and a Digital version of the movie.

Remember to limber up and beware of bathrooms, as Woody Harrelson (Venom), Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network), Abigail Breslin (“Scream Queens”) and Emma Stone (La La Land) return to the United States of Zombieland ten years after their first undead adventure for Ruben Fleischer’s long-awaited ZOMBIELAND: DOUBLE TAP coming to Digital December 24 and 4K Ultra HDTM, Blu-rayTM and DVD January 21 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

Experience an all-new adventure with some of your favorite zombie apocalypse survivors, as well as newcomers Rosario Dawson (TV’s “The Defenders”), Zoey Deutch (TV’s “The Politician”), Luke Wilson (Old School), Avan Jogia (Shaft), and Thomas Middleditch (TV’s “Silicon Valley”).

Set one decade after the events of the first film, ZOMBIELAND: DOUBLE TAP finds Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), Little Rock (Abigail Breslin), and Wichita (Emma Stone) working together as a well-oiled, zombie-killing machine with a new home in the now-vacant White House. These four slayers must face off against the many new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie, as well as some new human survivors. But most of all, they have to face the growing pains of their own snarky, makeshift family.

In addition to the film’s on-screen reunion, ZOMBIELAND: DOUBLE TAP brings back several fan-favorites behind the camera as well. Director Ruben Fleischer returns to the Zombieland universe after the blockbuster debut of Venom in 2018, directing a script penned by original Zombieland screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, in addition to Dave Callaham, solidifying ZOMBIELAND: DOUBLE TAP as an event ten years in the making.

It: Chapter Two arrives on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray with a 2160p presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio. - The first chapter of IT was quite the looker in 4K and the second chapter continues that excellence. HDR and Dolby Vision standouts would have to be the two scenes that take place at a carnival that pop with vivid colors, deep contrast and neon brightness all at the same time. The final showdown with Pennywise has great depth and shadow detail while never sacrificing brilliant specular highlights. The color palette and tone remains true to the first film.

**AUDIO QUALITY**

Audio is provided by a Dolby Atmos track. - Dialogue reproduction was crisp and clear. The added height channels are used for atmospheric presence but really comes alive in the final 20 minutes. You feel like Pennywise/IT is attacking you from everywhere when he is chasing down and terrorizing the grown up Losers club. LFE performance was excellent with deep, punchy bass when needed. There is zero to complain about here.

The Goldfinch arrives on Blu-ray with a 1080p transfer in the aspect ratio of 1.85:1 - Roger Deakins is one of the finest living cinematographers and I was excited to see his name on the credits. The Shining arrives on 4K UHD Blu-ray with a 2160p presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio. - When you watch a movie as many times as I have The Shining you think you've seen it all but with this new 4K transfer I was stunned by how many little details I never noticed in any other home video release. Fleshtones have a more natural appearance, colors have vivid saturation, like the blood pouring out of the infamous elevator. HDR makes the Overlook Hotel look better than ever with extra pop on natural and artificial lights, particularly the scenes that take place in front of the massive common room with the huge windows. Yes, for all us purists the tennis ball is back to it's correct yellow color and there is a new textural beauty to the carpeting it rolls onto to. Grain is thankfully still there and gives a filmic appearance. I could go on and on how much of a pleasure it was to watch my favorite horror movie of all time with this new 4K presentation.

Unforgettable franchise favorites Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson; “Skyscraper,” “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle”) and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham; “The Meg,” “Spy”) forge an unlikely partnership that provides fresh insight into their backstories. Johnson and Statham’s “sheer movie star charisma” (Scott Mendelson, Forbes) take the action, spectacle, thrills and humor to a new level and have already earned the film more than $680 million at the global box office.

Hobbs & Shaw features over 80 minutes* of never-before-seen bonus content including an alternate opening, deleted and extended scenes and several featurettes with the filmmakers and cast that take fans further into the thrilling story. A hit with audiences, Hobbs & Shaw earned an “A-” CinemaScore and is “the most exciting movie of the year” (Shawn Edwards, FOX-TV), with non-stop action across the globe, from Los Angeles to London and from the toxic wasteland of Chernobyl to the lush beauty of Samoa.

But when cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton Lorr (Idris Elba; “Thor: Ragnarok,” “The Dark Tower”) gains control of an insidious bio-threat that could alter humanity forever, Hobbs and Shaw must partner up to bring down the only guy who might be badder than themselves. Joining the cast as Shaw’s sister Hattie, Vanessa Kirby (Mission: Impossible-Fallout, “The Crown”) “is convincing as a woman who can take care of herself” (Rafer Guzman, Newsday). Directed by David Leitch from a story by longtime Fast & Furious narrative architect Chris Morgan and a screenplay by Morgan and Drew Pearce (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Iron Man 3), Hobbs & Shaw is produced by Johnson, Statham, Morgan and Hiram Garcia (Skyscraper, Rampage).

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment announced today that 1939’s acclaimed and beloved classic The Wizard of Oz will be released on Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack and Digital on October 29th. Directed by Victor Fleming (Gone With the Wind) and starring Judy Garland as Dorothy Gayle, The Wizard of Oz is widely considered to be one of the most influential films in cinematic history.

Adapted from L. Frank Baum’s timeless children’s tale about a Kansas girl’s journey over the rainbow, The Wizard of Oz officially premiered at Grauman’s Chinese Theater on August 15, 1939. The film was directed by Victor Fleming (who that same year directed Gone With the Wind), produced by Mervyn LeRoy, and scored by Herbert Stothart, with music and lyrics by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg. Ray Bolger appeared as the Scarecrow; Bert Lahr as the Cowardly Lion, Jack Haley as the Tin Woodman. Frank Morgan was seen in six different roles, including that of the "wonderful Wizard" himself. Dorothy was portrayed by a 4'11" sixteen year old girl who quickly earned her reputation as “the world’s greatest entertainer”-- the incomparable Judy Garland.

The Wizard of Oz received five Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, and captured two Oscars® -- Best Song (“Over the Rainbow”) and Best Original Score -- plus a special award for Outstanding Juvenile Performance by Judy Garland. The film was an overwhelmingly popular and critical success upon its initial release and repeated its ability to captivate audiences when MGM reissued the film in 1949 and 1955.

Released to wide acclaim and recognition, and with a long-lasting legacy in the film world, The Wizard of Oz owns a place in multiple AFI lists, including: 100 Years… 100 Movies (#6); 100 Years… 100 Thrills (#43); 100 Years… 100 Heroes and Villains (#4); 100 Years… 100 Songs (#1); 100 Years… 100 Movie Quotes (#4); and Greatest Movie Musicals (#3).

In 1989 The Wizard of Oz was part of the inaugural group of films selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant.

Using state of the art technology, a new 8K 16bit scan of the original Technicolor camera negative became the basis for the 4K UHD scan. The process was overseen by MPI colorist Janet Wilson, who has overseen every remaster of The Wizard of Oz for the past 20 years.

Ultra HD** showcases 4K resolution with High Dynamic Range (HDR) and a wider color spectrum, offering consumers brighter, deeper, more lifelike colors for a home entertainment viewing experience like never before.

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc of The Wizard of Oz will feature Dolby VisionTM HDR that dramatically expands the color palette and contrast range and uses dynamic metadata to automatically optimize the picture for every screen — frame by frame.

The Wizard of Oz will be available on Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack for $41.99 SRP and features an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc with the feature film in 4K with HDR and a Blu-ray disc of The Wizard of Oz. Fans can also own The Wizard of Oz in 4K Ultra HD via purchase from select digital retailers beginning on October 29th.

**VIDEO QUALITY**

(8.5/10)

Pokemon: Detective Pikachu arrives on 4K UHD with a 2160p presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio. - Colors can go from natural to eye searing bursts of neon glow hues. Black levels were excellent with more details in the 4K presentation. HDR adds an extra layer of vividness and brighter highlights. Detail was solid though there are a few moments of softness which has more to do with the source and look than the transfer. The Blu-ray looks excellent as well.

**AUDIO QUALITY**
