The hit HISTORY series returns to the only family-run pawn shop in Las Vegas, where three generations of men carefully assess the value of items brought in by an array of quirky customers in need of fast cash.
Long before banks, ATMs, and check-cashing services, pawnbrokers provided monetary loans in exchange for personal items of value, and are still helping people make ends meet today while bringing in a sizable profit for themselves. Watch in PAWN STARS as the Harrison family attempts to find the gems and bust the fakes, all in hopes of making the biggest profit possible. Grandfather, father and son use their sharp-eyed skills to assess the value of items ranging from the obscure to the historic. There isn't much the Harrison family hasn't seen or heard, making Richard, Rick and Corey experts in rare collectables and negotiating.
Each episode of PAWN STARS features an array of characters attempting to sell, purchase or pawn items that the Harrisons must carefully appraise, and determine if they re real or fake before revealing the often surprising answer to "What's it worth?"
Filmed on location at the "World Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop" , "Pawn Stars" is unlike any reality show before. The show focuses on the day to day workings of said pawn shop with the "Old Man", his son Rick Harris,Rick's son "Big Hoss" (real name Cory) and Corey's best friend "Chumlee". From the first episode on these guys are some true characters, my favorite being Chumlee and the Old Man. They have a great screen presence and way with customers. Rick and Big Hoss are extremely knowledgeable on antiques and collectibles. The customers come from all walks of life and it is a real treat to see their "treasures" brought into the shop for pawn or sale. I highly enjoyed this season of "Paw Stars" and each episode is a breeze as they run about 22 minutes each.10/10
"Pawn Stars:Season Two" arrives on DVD with a 480i transfer with a matted 1.78:1 aspect ratio. First thing to note is this release is not anamorphic enhanced for 16x9 widescreen televisions. I used the zoom feature on my player and fitted the image properly to the screen and found the image displayed some nice primary colors and detail that was stronger than I expected to find on all the interesting items that come into the shop. Black levels were okay. There were some noticeable signs of compression from time to time , but nothing to ruin my enjoyment of the show.Overall a 7/10.
Audio is provided by a 2.0 Stereo track. What matters on a track like this is dialogue and it is crystal clear. I was able to hear every funny thing Chumlee had to say. 7/10
There is a "Play All" feature for 30 minutes of "Deleted Scenes" that are just as entertaining as the main program. Rick even tells the viewer how to spot a fake Rolex.
