The True Story of WrestleMania has been one of the most anticipated releases for the first quarter of the new year. While I enjoyed the Main Feature on Disc 1 (Running Time 2hrs1min12sec) after all is said and done we still don;t have a definitive look at WrestleMania. Things start off really good discussing the territories and a young, aggressive Vince McMahon wanting to expand his fathers company into the mainstream of America. I & II are discussed in great detail and even has insight from the Warner Theater owner that was one of the participating theaters to show via closed captioning the early WrestleManias. They really put over Hulk Hogan and it was nice to see them show their appreciation and realize that from the very first stages that the biggest event of the year would not have lasted without Hulk or vice versa. The documentary runs in linear fashion from I-III but then flips to XXIII to discuss Donald Trumps involvement in the Hair vs. Hair Match then goes back into IV and V hailing from Trump at Atlantic City. From that point on things run non linear which hurts the presentation overall.
What is one of the most glaring flaws is the complete glossing over several years of shows with nary a discussion of the matches that I'm sure fans would have appreciated more insight and feelings. Make no mistake this is the WWE version of history as they still insist that III held 93,173 patrons and VII was moved to a smaller venue due to security concerns during the Iraq war, when it was really because of poor ticket sales and waning interest. They are quite frank though with the fact that the preview matches at house shows between Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair just weren't catching on with fans after years of build up and that was the main reason for making two main events at VIII, with "Macho Man" Randy Savage taking Hogans spot against Flair.
The absolute highlight is an all too brief fly on the wall look at WrestleMania IX including a dancing Vince at the Gorilla position when Shawn Michaels heads out for his match. It is a candid peek behind the curtain for what is regarded among the worst WrestleManias ever. There are quick little clips of behind the scenes footage from other years but usually there is no audio as there is narration or an interviewee speaking. There are interview segments from Vince McMahon, Hulk Hogan, HHH, John Cena, Shawn Michaels, Sheamus, The Big Show, Ricky "The Dragon: Steamboat, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Gene Okerlund, Stu Staks - Pro Wreslting Illustrated Publisher, Jerry "The King" Lawlwer, The Rock, William "Refrigerator" Perry, Dick Ebersol, Howard Finkel, Jerry Brisco, Donald Trump, Sgt. Slaughter, and "The Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase. I would say this is a definite recommend to fans still but just go in not expecting an extremely open look that we were hoping for. 7.5/10
The True Story of WrestleMania arrives on DVD with a 480I transfer utilizing in the aspect ratio of 1.78:1. The main feature includes newly shot interview segments that are interspersed with a ton of vintage footage that has been stretched to fill the screen. Despite not using original aspect for the 80's and 90's footage the quality is still very good. The new and recent scenes are abound with crisp, bold colors and strong black levels. Detail was good on clothing textures and close up shots of the rings or crowd. Vintage footage was a little soft in some spots but was always pleasing with nice color saturation coming from some of the more colorful individuals and style choices of those days.
Disc 2 & 3 contain the matches and are presented in an aspect ratio of 1.78:1 with the matches presented with a starry background on both sides of the image to fill out the screen on HDTVs without sacrificing the original footage and stretching it. Colors were were consistently good with deep reds and sky blues being the best. Overall the presentation continues WWE's solid run of work. 8/10
Audio is provided by a Dolby Digital 5.1 track on Disc 1, while Disc 2 & 3 hare presented with Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo tracks. These are crisp and clean tracks with solid dialogue reproduction. Music cues and crowd din lightly bleed to the surrounds on Disc 1. Disc 2 & 3 had decent stereo separation and the match commentary was crisp and clean. 7.5/10

WORLD EXCLUSIVE - WWE Royal Rumble 2011 DVD Review
It's the dream of every superstar to headline WrestleMania. For one man out of 40, the dream becomes reality at the Royal Rumble. Whoever outlasts 39 other competitors earns himself a championship match at WrestleMania 27. The superstars of Raw and Smackdown, including past winners Randy Orton, John Cena, Edge, and Rey Mysterio, and superstars looking to add this win to their resume, including Wade Barrett, Kane, Kofi Kingston, Sheamus, John Morrison, The Miz, Mark Henry (and more) will do everything to overpower and outlast the competition as the Road to WrestleMania 27 begins at the Royal Rumble.
I enjoyed this years show quite a bit. It had some solid wrestling action, surprise returns, and saw a new main event talent emerge. Below are my thoughts for each match:
World Heavyweight Championship Match - Edge vs Dolph Ziggler w/ Vickie Guerrero
This was a strong match to open the PPV. Dolph and Edge both worked at a steady pace that built to where the finish they had the crowd fully into it with the belief that Ziggler might actually pull out the win. Vickie of course interferes and she was Gold. Winner (Edge
WWE Championship Match - The Miz w/ Alex Riley vs. Randy Orton
This was a well fought match but wasn't there best head to head contest. There was a lot of interference from the New Nexus and Alex Riley. Miz got the pin after CM Punk slid out from under the ring and hot the GTS on Orton and laid Miz on top to retain. Winner (The Miz)
Divas Title Match - Natalya vs. Michelle McCool vs. Layla vs. Eve
The less said about this horrible match the better. It is a shame that this is what represents the Womens division now. My best opinion of this match is press skip on your remote. Winner (Eve)
40 Man Royal Rumble Match
CM Punk and Daniel Bryan started the biggest Royal Match in history. For a brief 90 seconds I was admittedly marking out for this and then came the usual jobbers that help fill out the roster. Punk was my favorite to win even though he was entrant #1. Fans were treated to a breathtaking display of athleticism from John Morrison that to describe doesn't do it justice, just watch for it. The surprise returns were Booker T and Diesel , they both received HUGE pops from the crowd. Unfortunately they were both promptly eliminated.
I felt the worst part of the match was about a 7 minute segment where John Cena and Hornswoggle teamed up and eliminated quite a few entrants with some terrible unfunny comedy and crowd pandering thrown in. Thankfully the match got back on track later and as stated a new main event talent was made when Alberto Del Rio outlasted Randy Orton, John Cena, and Wade Barret in the final four. There was a fun end when Santino who wasn't eliminated came back into the ring and the crowd was going crazy thinking he was going to actually win but Del Rio countered a move and is going to Wrestlemania 27 to challenge for whatever Championship he desires. Winner (Alberto Del Rio)
Royal Rumble 2011 arrives on DVD with a 480i transfer in the original aspect ratio of 1.78:1. This is a very colorful and clean presentation. Primary colors are well saturated. Detail was good and the crowd was easily viewable. There were some light compression artifacts during ring entrances. Overall a consistently strong release. 8/10
Audio is provided by a Dolby Digital 5.1 track. The best part of the presentation is the entrance music which is provide with some decent bass. The commentary was crisp and clean bit found it a little too loud in the mix sometimes. Surrounds are mostly used for atmospheric crowd din. 7/10

2010 Raw Recap
What an exciting year 2010 was for the WWE and its fans. We fianlly saw the ascension of new main event talent such as The Miz, Wade Barret, and Sheamus. It saw the retirement of Shawn Michaels and yes the build up to his legendary match with The Undertaker at Wrestlemania XXVI is included here in great detail. One of the greatest moments in wrestling history saw the return of Bret "The Hitman" Hart to WWE for the first time since November 1997 and the result is an emotional but happy memory. The matches that are included were well chosen and highlight a lot of talent. This set is a definite must own. 9/10
WWE Raw: Best of 2010 arrives on DVD with a 480i standard definition transfer in the original aspect ratio of 1.78:1. With Raw being captured with full HD cameras the downgrade to DVD resolution isn't bad at all. There are some signs of compression artifacts during superstar entrances but as a whole this a very crisp and enjoyable presentation. Primary colors were rock solid with really nice saturation. Clothing and close up shots exhibited some very nice detail. Blacks were good throughout. WWE has provided fans a solid presentation. 8/10
Audio is provided by a Dolby Digital 5.1 track. Commentary and narration was crisp and clean. The superstar entrance themes had a nice full sound without drowning out the crowd. Surround usage is minimal with some instances of crowd noise placed in the rear. A good presentation overall though. 7/10

Fans loved to boo Bobby Heenan but despite their vocal displeasure with The Weasel, everyone acknowledges he's the greatest manager in the history of sports entertainment. He guided members of the infamous Heenan Family to great heights in both the AWA and WWE, even occasionally stepping into the ring himself. He also further cemented his place in pro wrestling lore by becoming one of the great color commentators of all time, completely earning his 2004 induction into the WWE Hall of Fame. I'll start by saying this was without a doubt my most anticipated WWE DVD release of the year. After watching both discs I was happy with the content but this could have been so much more.
The documentary runs just a little over 50 minutes. It is heavily narrated with some very amusing clips and stories from Bobby's wife, daughter, Ken Patera, Blackjack Mulligan, John Cena, Vince McMahon, Mean Gene, Nick Bockwinkel, etc. The shame of the main feature is that we don't hear nor see Bobby in any new interview segments sadly due to his deteriorating health. They focus very briefly on his career as a wrestler in the ring and then bring on a barrage of hilarious clips of him and his best friend Gorilla Monsoon. There is also some fun thoughts on his stable of wrestlers that was called "The Heenan Family".
The extras are a great selection of memorable moments from his AWA, WWF, and WCW days. The bonus matches are well chosen and the best is without a doubt the one from Wrestling Challenge 88 when he faced off with The Ultimate Warrior and after losing the match had to wear a weasel suit. Another highlight is the full 1992 Royal Rumble featuring Heenan on commentary and Ric Flair winning the WWF Championship.
Overall a really well done set but I feel if it was made sooner we would have had an much more substantial documentary. An extra disc with even more clips of his promos and commentary with Monsoon would have been welcome. A definite must own though.9/10
The DVD arrives with a strong 1.78:1 standard definition transfer. WWE has always kept there video library in good condition and it really shows with very crisp images from the mid 80's on. Colors are bold and striking on "The Brain's" suits and stable of wrestlers. New interview segments look great with strong black levels. Vintage footage is presented in their original aspect ratio with pillarboxed bars on the sides to fill the widescreen image that resemble on of Bobby's more flashy suits.
Audio was crisp and clean throughout. Also the menus feature some funny elevator music.Overall the A/V presentation earns a solid 8/10

It's a timeless debate for sports entertainment fans everywhere. Who is the greatest of all time? With the voting being done by current WWE wrestlers and agents the final position of several legends are definitely placed in some controversial spots on the top 50 overall list. I didn't list the full list that was leaked a couple weeks ago so readers that don't want this release spoiled with their mind already made up whether they don't agree with who was chosen. The first disc is one full length feature that is hosted ESPN Sportscenter style by Todd Grisham. The top 50 are counted down with each Superstar getting on average a 3 minute career highlight reel with old and new comments spliced in between the footage and sometimes narrated over the action on screen. Some of the more notable wrestlers that were filmed for their thoughts include John Cena, The Miz, Arn Anderson, JJ Dillon, Jerry "The King" Lawler, Ken Patera (only briefly though), and Ted Dibiase.
The matches that are were selected for Disc 2 and 3 are a nice selection and include some matches I don't recall seeing on previous releases. Some of the best are the mid to late 80's matches from Madison Square Garden. I will be back to update my personal thoughts on the position that some Superstars were voted into after the set is officially released on December 14th. Overall score 8/10
WWE has made this release 16:9 anamorphic compatible. First off the colors were really solid , newer footage that was shot in HD looks great with striking primary colors. The recently shot interviews are the best for natural fleshtones and image detail. Vintage footage is shown in it's original aspect ratio with some WWE Universe type bars on the right and left of the picture to fill the screen. Vintage footage is mixed but anything from the mid 80's up looked very sharp. Black levels were consistently rock solid throughout. 8/10
Audio is presented in Dolby Digital. Dialogue was crystal clear throughout. The only time sound was muffled was during the Lou Thesz match on Disc 2. The always stellar video highlight packages WWE puts together sound great with either the wrestlers them music or another well chosen score accompanying the footage. Overall a good performer.7.5/10

The Marine 2 - Blu-ray Disc Review
***SYNOPSIS*** - Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment (TCFHE) and WWE Studios present The Marine 2 – the second installment of The Marine movie franchise. Inspired by a true story, The Marine 2 was shot entirely on location in Phuket, Thailand and stars WWE Superstar (Ted DiBiase) as Marine recon sniper Joe Linwood. Reminiscent of the 2001 Dos Palmas incident, Linwood’s trip to paradise with his wife is suddenly shattered when guerillas take control of a secluded five-star resort asking for a substantial ransom. The guerilla leaders begin murdering hostages as the clock ticks away, forcing Joe to use his expert skills to save the hostages from certain death.
***VIDEO QUALITY*** - Arriving in a full 1080p high definition transfer utilizing the AVC codec and presented in it's original 1.85:1 aspect ratio, "The Marine 2" is stunner for fine details but is marred by soft focusing and what can only be described as artificial over sharpening.The already mentioned fine detail is well rendered with individual beads of sweat, pockmarks in faces, and the sharp, rocky caves of Thailand.Blacks are crushed limiting shadow detail creating an image that is at once noisy in nighttime scenes and lacks any sense of depth.I was hoping for a vibrant color palette due to the film being shot in Thailand but unfortunately the filmmakers decided to go for the unnatural,desaturated look.Overall the film has better production values than your average straight-to-video movie but is still lacking when compared to modern Hollywood films. 8/10
***AUDIO QUALITY*** - Action fans can rejoice with this DTS-HD MA 5.1 track, as it is a constant barrage of gunfire and explosions.Surround channels are almost constantly engaged with grenades rolling around, rockets whooshing by, and bullets pooping off and falling around the soundfield.This track isn't subtle and is more concerned with bombast than directionality.Bass is tight and really gets to show it's muscle with some wall shaking rumbles.Dialogue was clean and crisp but there were some occasions where it seemed mixed a little lower than rest of the track.A great lossless track that helps to overshadow any shortcomings in the video transfer. 9/10
